I wasn't the only retiree working at Disney World and the reasons I heard varied from "protecting the nest egg" to "I always wanted to work here". Cast members also get complimentary park tickets and discounts on food, merchandise, hotels, and get to wear some really cool costumes. The wildest costumes are hands down at the Magic Kingdom. Not everyone enjoys the work and leave soon after being hired, some like one gentleman who was a train enthusiast loved running the Magic Kingdom train that runs around the outer edge of that park.
Disney World is not cheap and free admission is a great perk. There are also discounts and admissions to special events.
I consider myself lucky because in my role of working merchandise I could pick up shifts throughout the parks. Then to get even more locations I did online training in food safety so I could work in the restaurants. I got pictures of myself in over 60 costumes from the Grand Hotel merchandise to Friars Nook runner at the Magic Kingdom.
The characters that Disney has brought to life still resonates with me at 60 plus years.
Disney regularly updates their costumes so these costumes are from 2015 to 2021
